Helping people take control of their recovery
One element of our work will focus on promoting health and wellbeing among people living with and beyond cancer. The Living With and Beyond Cancer programme team will work with our partners to provide information and advice on lifestyle choices, healthy eating and physical fitness, as well as providing classes, clubs and events to support physical activity
The NHS document Taking Back Control explains that such education and events enable patients to participate in their recovery and 'should be seen as an integral part of the recovery package.' Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and undertaking moderate levels of physical activity has been shown to help sustain recovery for patients in remission at the end of treatment [source].

If you're living with or beyond cancer then Macmillan Information and Support Centres are a great place to find information about relevant health and wellbeing events, groups and fitness classes in your area. You can find your nearest centre on our Macmillan Information Centres page.
Health and wellbeing events are patient education and support sessions (group or 1:1 clinic appointment) that provide individuals with the information and confidence they require to enable them to lead as normal and active life as possible after their cancer treatment. Here is a document containing guidance for health and wellbeing events in the local area.
